This project attempts to situate the theory of adult development in a real-world scenario. Each of the four members of our group had different responses to the various theorists introduced in the course readings. Based on those personal resonances, and on our own individual contexts — which includes, of course, our own real-life experiences — we each chose an aspect of adult developmental theory to concentrate on. Then, to connect what we were reading to practical concerns, we decided to embed our ideas in a fictional scenario. We hope that this methodology unveils some of the purpose and reward of using "theory" as a component of "action" and "imagination."
The Scenario: A friend of ours is facing a dilemma at work. Recently she got in touch with each of us to ask our advice. We each replied by email, basing our thoughts on the kind of adult development theory that made the most sense to us from a personal point of view.
